Shape Series Off and Running
Knight Ridder/Tribune Information Services (KRT) began distribution of The Shape We're In newspaper series this past Tuesday, May 27 and we are happy to report early and enthusiastic interest from newspapers and other media outlets. If you have not already recruited your local newspaper to print the series, the time to do so is now!

The Shape series was sent directly to more than 400 newspapers via the KRT wire service and is being offered free to all U.S. newspapers via KRT's Web site.
More than 70 additional media outlets (see a list below) have accessed the Shape series through KRT's Web site.

Accessing the series does not mean that a media outlet will definitely run the stories, but it does indicate a high level of interest. With that in mind, we encourage you and your colleagues to contact your local newspaper editors and reporters and ask them to run the series. Remember, this is also a great opportunity for you to mention the resources, such as issue experts and local programs, that you can offer to help editors and reporters localize the stories.

Contacting Editors and Reporters
Here are three things to note before you contact your editors and reporters:

- If you contact a newspaper from the list below, we ask that you make general requests to print the series, e.g.: "We've heard The Shape We're In series is available to all newspapers and we'd like you to run it." Do not tell them that you know they have accessed the series. This avoids the hard sell, which may turn off editors.

- Only members of the media should go to www.krtdirect.com/shape to download the series. The general public can view the full stories and other related series information at http://www.shapenews.com.

- To help you get started with your recruitment efforts, we have provided a brochure you can download and give to your local newspaper's editors and reporters, as well as a few tips from our Community Action Guide.
