How PAJ works
We start each project with the understanding that all forms of
media can work together to help provide answers to social ills.
Our three goals:

Our journalists — former reporters from the New York Times,
Wall Street Journal and McClatchy newspapers — have time to
fully research health, education and cultural issues for each
story, using the extensive community contacts that emerge from
our partnerships with our nonprofit funders. The series,
complete with a logo, photographs, local resources for readers
and journalists, is distributed to McClatchy-Tribune News
Service. MCT moves the series free on its wires and a dedicated
online site into newsrooms nationwide. The series distribution
date is tied to a national news event to ensure editorial
interest and widest publication. MCT also designs and produces
color reprints of the entire series for distribution to
journalists, the general public and professionals in the field.

The global online community is reached through a customized
project website, which seeks out and links to the best resources
on the web for each issue, using the newspaper series as a
centerpiece. Sites feature blogs, podcasts and webcasts that
connect visitors to help and to each other. The newspaper series
also is formatted as a feature on the homepage of each McClatchy newspaper website — which links to the project website,
further expanding the audience and converging media.

Our latest partnerships include
podcasts and broadcasts with National Public Radio and
coordinated airing or re-broadcasts of select productions from
the Public Broadcasting System. Select projects are featured in
Video News Releases aired in major markets.
